Gever Tulley - TED Talk #8

  This TED Talk was all about safety despite its name. If kids are more exposed to dangerous objects then they will know how to treat them when they encounter them in a dangerous situation. These tools can also be useful to kids if they learn how to use them safely. These tools also help kids learn more about their surrounding world. During this TED Talk Gever spoke clearly and didn't stutter. It was easy to listen to him which made it easier to grasp the subject. during his speech he influenced people to expose their children to 'dangerous' things like cars and knives. He used the petcha cucha style of presenting. The slides contained no words just pictures. The pictures were of the dangerous things he was trying to convince parents to let their kids use. This helped to show that these tools maybe are not so dangerous after all. This applies to everyone because if we can learn to expose kids to dangerous things earlier in their lives they may be less injury prone. Also kids will be able to expand their learning range if their are allowed to use such tools.

David Gallo - Ted Talk #7

In this video David was showing a few of the amazing species that inhabit the sea. They all were unique in their own way. A few of them had unbelievable camouflage abilities. One octopus was able to blend into a patch of algae by changing it's color, tint, brightness, and texture. David had unbroken speech which helped me follow along better. He kept up pace and didn't speed up or slow down, and he kept on topic. He used pictures and videos during his presentation. The videos really helped because other wise it would have been harder to picture them. This video helps others to gain a better understanding of the ocean and the amazing species that live there. It also shows we have much more to learn about the species of the ocean. This may lead to new curriculum in education and more marine related jobs around the world. My dream job is a marine biologist. In my job I would study the species of the ocean and discover new ones. This was an unbelievable video.

Dave Eggers - TED Talk #6

  This was a great idea to begin with. These tutoring institutions are fun for the children while also helping them  really focus on their learning. They can limit their distractions and get their work done quickly. They also can receive help on topics that they are having a hard time grasping. Dave spoke fairly well and described his points well. I felt he was unsure of what to say at some points which forced him to utter 'um' too many times. in his presentation, it was nice that he used a power point full of pictures to illustrate his tutoring facility to help the audience get to know his facility. The facility looked like it was a fun learning environments for all who used them. It was amazing to hear that the facility had 1,400 volunteers. It is great that that many people were willing to give up their time in order to aid others. If we could all get children into these facilities the results would amaze us. The increased use of these facilities would free up more time for everyone. Then we could use tat free time in a productive way. It impacts education and the world, because these facilities will increase the amount of information students could learn in the classroom because questions would be more limited.

Kamal Meattle - TED Talk #5

A take away from this video is that plants matter. The three plants mentioned ( the Areca Palm, Mother-in-law's tongue, and, money plant) can produce all the fresh air needed for a person to live. They could be the answer for the future. He spoke slowly and emphasized important points. He used examples while presenting and used pictures to illustrate his points. This video matters because these plants could be the answer to future problems due to lack of fresh air. They will be used all over the world. It would affect me if I used these plants to provide me with my fresh air. These plants are miracle workers and I believe they will rise to fame in a few short years.

Clay Shirky -TED Talk #4

A take away from this video is that if we use our free time more wisely, we can achieve much more. The speaker in this video speaks loudly and clearly. He kept the pace of his talk up and left little room for break which kept the audience engaged. During his presentation he used pictures to visualize what he was talking about. The pictures seemed to simplify the topic for the audience. This video matters because it tells us that we need to use our time more productively which I believe applies to everyone. It connects to me because if I spent less time doing fruitless things I could achieve much more. The same applies to education and the world.

Daniel Pink - TED Talk #3

 We need a motive to do something is what I took away from this video. Without motive we will lose interest and stop working on what we were doing. When he needed to express an important component of his topic, he emphasized the word or the phrase. He used good descriptors to paint pictures for the audience and he used examples from the outside world to relate his topic to his audience. He used mainly vocal presentation to present his ideas. He used a few visual presentation items but not many. This video matters because it talked about how we need motive to do what we do. I agree. We do everything either because we have to or we get a reward for doing it. It connects to me personally because I need motive to do what I do, and this helped me realize that I can succeed if I find a motive for everything I need to do. It connects to the world because when other people need to get important things done they can find a motive as well. Without a motive or reward, everyone would leave the less entertaining tasks but maybe important tasks unfinished.

Pete Alcorn - TED Talk #2

 From this video I take away that our population will reach a climax and then decline. The world will be in for a change. Pete Alcorn enunciated his words well which helped his audience better understand what he was saying. His presentation style was visual and verbal. He spoke to his audience and accompanied his words with pictures. The fact that the world is about to reach another climax and will change is what makes this video matter. It connects to me personally because I will be living in the time when the change is made and I will need to adapt. It connects to education because new jobs will need to be learned so that the change in population does not effect commerce and production of goods. It connects to the world because this change will effect the entire world not just a single nation. He used his hands to help tell the story. He used constant movement to keep the audience interested.
